Why does it cost so MUCH to get a rabbit fixed?

My local vet charges $375 to fix my rabbit, unless I elect to fore-go pre-op bloodwork, sedation and pain medication. HOW can you possible opt not to have sedation and pain medication? This does not make sense! Is there somewhere near San Antonio that will neuter my rabbit for less than this? I mean, he isn't a friggen show bunny. I just want him to stop crapping on my couch!
